Summer 2021 Update from the Board
Greeting fellow SAWS member.
We hope that everyone enjoyed their summer and time since our last meeting.
At the June Annual General Meeting (AGM) we said goodbye to our President Neil Dorian, and fellow board members Marian Hood, Terry Hockaday, and Andy Lockhart. Well, not really goodbye as they are still members of SAWS and plan to continue their membership and be active in SAWS, it was just a goodbye from the board. I would like to thank each of them for the work they have done over the years in making SAWS a better organization.
We also elected two new board members at the June AGM, those being Roy Hodgkinson and Jared Howkins. The board appointed Ron Critchlow to complete our required minimum of 8 members.
Many members may not be aware, but the board amongst themselves decides who will hold what position on the board. At our first board meeting this summer, the older members all kind of ganged up on me and made me President. Well, they didn’t really gang up on me but my nomination was seconded by darn near everyone at the table so it was kind of a done deal at that point. Those who didn’t second the nomination were just too slow so I guess it was unanimous, and you’re stuck with me for a while. The board also determines what the positions should be, so we’ve played a bit with the board structure, and it currently stands as follows:
President.................................................................................................... Doug Drury
Vice President and Program Chair......................…... Tam Godfrey
Treasurer and Membership..................................…...….. Bill Maniotakis
Secretary.............................................................…................... Murray Lundberg
Communications Chair............................,........................ Jared Howkins
Assistant to Program Chair.................................…..... Roy Hodgkinson
Out-Of-Town Members’ Representative…....….. Ron Critchlow
Board Member at Large.............................................……........... Don Smillie
With quite a few out-of-town members we felt it was important to create a board position to ensure their needs as members are being met. One thing we will be doing is holding as many events as possible both in person and remotely at the same time so all can participate. More on that to be revealed soon.
With the September meeting we plan to return to in-person meetings (but having an interactive remote attendance at the same time). Stay tuned for the September meeting announcement which will be sent out soon.
For now, mark off on your calendars the following dates so you don’t miss any of the upcoming meetings:

November 17, 2021
December 15, 2021

Doug Drury, President
