Saw Sharpening Workshops with Vincent Tai

Learn how to sharpen your favourite dovetail saw, backsaw, or handsaw and tune them to your liking.

Vincent will lead a three hour course covering sharpening for both rip and crosscut, as well as fine tuning set and specific teeth geometry.  There will be ample time to sharpen two saws, but restoration type saws; * wavy tooth lines, major kinks or warpage will take too long for this course.

Material Required

  1. Good condition saw(s) rip and or crosscut

  2. Your own file(s) – the Lee Valley set is perfect because it has a full range of file sizes OR the specific file(s) for the TPI on the saw you will sharpen.

  3. Saw sharpening vise – if you own one or build one for your saw.  Rob Cosman’s tutorial for making a saw sharpening vise is a good one to follow.  https://youtu.be/rRRMogzFOrA

  4. Optional : saw set, chalk, layout fluid, saw filing guide/jig, small diamond stone or Arkansa stone.
