Fine Works In Wood 2025 - News Release
SAWS Fine Works in Wood Exhibition slated for Sept. 5 to 14, 2025
Calgary, Alta. Jan. 16, 2025. The top woodworking event of its kind in Western Canada is back for another show. The Southern Alberta Woodworkers Society (SAWS) Fine Works in Wood Exhibition and Sale, will be held Sept. 5 to 14, 2025 in Southcentre Mall, Calgary, Alta. Entry details are on the SAWS website www.saws.ca.
“This highly anticipated Exhibition brings together top woodworkers in a celebration of creativity, innovation and excellence,” says Tom Gorman, SAWS 2025 Exhibition chair. “Held every second year it typically attracts entries from across Alberta and other parts of Canada. It is free to attend and that attracts strong audiences to see these skills first hand.”
SAWS was started more than 40 years ago to create an outlet for this quality of work, he says. “A look back at our history with this event shows we have never failed to deliver on that excellence. Entries are predominantly made of wood but can have other materials if they are used to complement the design. Creativity, such as original designs, excellence in workmanship and diversity of approach have been high points of past exhibitions.”
One reason exhibitors enjoy participating is the exposure this event brings to the general public. The show is open to all, says Gorman. The Southcentre Mall location provides easy access and brings thousands of people in daily. Some entries will be available for sale.
Exhibition entry deadline is end of day May 23, 2025. Entry details such as fees are available at the Call for Entries document on the SAWS website www.saws.ca. The Exhibition is open to all SAWS members and any woodworker anywhere in Canada. However, all successful entries must pass a SAWS Standards Committee Assessment. That ensures only the highest standard of work makes it into the show. In addition, entries will be judged by a Jury of Experts with winners declared in three categories: Furniture, turning and other.
“Probably the easiest way for potential exhibitors or visitors to get a sense of the kind of work that is entered is to check out entries from past SAWS exhibitions by visiting the SAWS website and clicking on the Exhibitions button,” says Gorman.
This SAWS Exhibition is provided in part with the support of the local and Western Canadian woodworking community and related industries, says Gorman. The exhibition and sale space is provided in partnership with Oxford Properties which owns Southcentre Mall. Financial support is provided in part by assistance from Calgary Arts Development and through Exhibition sponsorship.
